Psychotherapy & Counselling

My therapy practice

Sometimes painful memories, strong feelings and intrusive thoughts become too overwhelming to manage. When this happens, it is not unusual to feel anxious, panic-stricken, low in mood or just aware that something isn’t right. You may be asking yourself “what’s happening to me,” and when there appears to be no answer, this can feel uncomfortable, destabilising and frightening; or you may feel that a specific event, such as a bereavement, the end of a relationship or a traumatic experience has made life feel more of a struggle and less enjoyable. Talking to someone about your issues takes courage and I offer a safe, confidential space to do this. You can talk openly about how you’re feeling and you will be heard without fear of being criticised or judged.

I have an honours degree in psychology, a postgraduate diploma in psychodynamic counselling and a master’s degree in clinical psychotherapy. I am COSRT approved in relationship therapy and facilitate the Personal Development groups at the University of Brighton for postgraduate students training in psychodynamic counselling. Furthermore, I have extensive experience working in both the public and private sectors.

My core training is in psychodynamic psychotherapy, and I have extensive training in other therapeutic methods. This is why I describe my approach as integrative: combining elements from different theoretical perspectives, tailored to your specific needs, preferences and circumstances.

I work with adults (18+), couples and families, face to face at my practice or by Zoom.

What can you expect in the first session?

One of the most important aspects of counselling and psychotherapy lies in the quality and strength of the therapeutic relationship, which is why you should feel completely comfortable with your therapist. The first session allows us to meet, for you to talk about your concerns, and for me to understand your situation. It also lets us decide if we want to continue working together. You are under no obligation to return after the first session.
